SpringFilm: Chariots of Fire (1981) In-Person

Join the Springfield Public Library for a free showing of the 1981 Oscar Winning Film Chariots of Fire at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 17th at the Wildish Community Theater in downtown Springfield.

Harold Abrahams and Eric Liddell are both athletic runners who strike up a friendly rivalry with each other. Both men face difficult challenges in pursuing the sport: Harold confronts Antisemitism from the established running community at Cambridge, while Eric is torn between a life of running and a dedication to serving as a missionary overseas. This timeless classic won the 1981 Oscar for Best Picture, and tells the captivating story of Great Britain’s triumph at the 1924 Summer Olympics. This film is rated PG.

SpringFilm continues at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 21st, 2024, with a free showing of the meta buddy movie The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.

SpringFilm is made possible by a partnership between the Springfield Public Library, the Springfield Public Library Foundation, Willamalane Parks and Recreation District, and the Wildish Community Theater, and is generously sponsored by Plank Town Brewing Company.

All SpringFilm events are free and open to the community.
