More about Stephanie

anqati təmtəm tənas siyaxus na nim. Her traditional name translates to old soul young eyes, and her American name is Stephanie Craig. Stephanie’s Mother’s maternal people are Santiam and Yoncalla Kalapuya, Takelma Rogue River, and Cow Creek Umpqua tribes from southern Oregon and the Willamette Valley. Stephanie’s maternal Grandmother’s paternal people were Clackamas Chinook, Wasco, Chehalis, Mohawk and Metis from northwestern and Columbia River Plateau in Oregon, western Washington and Canada. Stephanie’s Father’s people are bostons, or American.

She’s a 7th generation traditional basket weaver, traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) and lifeways practitioner, culture keeper and bearer. She’s an anthropologist with a focus on western Oregon cultural archaeology, cultural museum collections management consultant and educator. Her MA:IS is in Anthropology, Indigenous Museums and Folklore. She also has certificates in Tribal Museum Studies, Cultural Resource Management, Small Museum Pro!, and Interpretive Guide. She uses TEK methods, indigenous ways of knowing, ancestral knowledge, traditional plants to create, revive and awaken centuries old art and ways of life, like within basketry. Her 3rd and 4th great Grandmothers were renowned master basket weavers. Stephanie is inspired by them and other weavers; though they were forced from their traditional ways of life into an unknown colonized new world, they continued their traditional lifeways that the settlers purchased as collectible art. Stephanie’s motivation comes from her children, her Tribe and her community.
